Written By: Sweena Mangal

The ambassadors from Security Council have been debating and trying to find resolutions that would not end in war.
The main intentions of the Security Council are to establish communications with Japan, and to maintain stability. The meaning of “maintaining stability” is to make …

Japanese Crisis

Japan was an extended nation before World War II. After losing much ground, they looked to regain lost territory. The point of view of Japanese ambassadors was to “restore” their prior government and proclaim their world dominance.
Spencer Segal, speaking as the Security Council Pesident, was asked his opinion on what he thinks about Japan wanting World domination. “I am simply appalled that Japan would go and threaten the sovereignty of other nations,” says Spencer.
Next, Spencer was asked what action should be taken on this crisis: “Str0ngly support a non-binding embargo …

This year, a dance was taking place in Academy 1. There were strobe lights, tables to sit in, and people dancing on the floor. Many said that it got very hot and sweaty, but it was definitely fun. They had an energetic playlist, but some people complained that the songs were too old. They still made the best of the last night of MUN, and the dance concluded with a friendship ceremony. Everyone sang songs, and some even cried since MUN was almost over.
All in all, everyone had a lot …

ECOSOC’s second resolution was on refugees fleeing from their countries. There were countless opinions and a lot of debate. The first speaker was Cuba.
The Cuban representative did not think that other countries would be hospitable or want to house refugees. Iraq agreed and stated that Iraq did not have the resources. Other countries said that the resolution should be amended and refugees shouldn’t flee the country unless the situation is life threatening.
On the other hand, Varun Joshi from Morocco said, “These people only need to leave if the situation is …

EcoSoc Resolution on Eradicating Poverty and Hunger

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, the EcoSoc committee on eradicating poverty and hunger proposed a resolution to help get rid of hunger worldwide. This resolution stated that the UN would try to get larger countries with relatively good economies to help smaller countries that are in poverty, especially those affected by war.
Some countries, such as Sweden, were all for it. Patrick Fuller of Sweden, from the Southwest/Riverside delegation, said that if these countries didn’t get food, adults in these countries would become feeble and weak and eventually pass away, …

Last night the MUN-kee cup was stolen by Carmen San Diego. She released information that she would leave three clues this morning about the whereabouts of the stolen MUN-kee cup. After completing a series of games such as face painting, puzzles, scavenger hunts, and even using static electricity to stick balloons to advisers, each of the teams sat down on the wood floor to hear the winners of the MUN-kee cup. The lights turned off and Carmen San Diego’s face appeared on the screen. She informed the ambassadors about the …

It’s Getting Warmer

G.A. is currently working on resolutions. In fact, around 10:00am this morning G.A. passed a resolution on deforestation. Deforestation is when trees are cut down for use in building homes and firewood. Congratulations to G.A. for passing this resolution.
Passing resolutions in G.A. is very hard to accomplish. First of all, you need to write a proposition. Writing propositions take time and dedication. They need to be fully proofread and presented in front of hundreds of delegates in G.A. When you write a proposition, you have to have support sentences. The …

Press Conference Morning Briefing 4/30/11
Good morning. Today, the Deputy Secretary-General will be joining us. Unfortunately, the Secretary-General is busy with resolutions, and is unable to come. She did however, enjoy bonding time with her delegation, and also had a lot of fun with her MUNkee team during the MUNkee Jamboree. The topic for today’s conference will be about Security Council. As many of you now know, a crisis did occur yesterday afternoon.
In the middle of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding, Wiki Leaks had released a significant amount of …
