On May 1st the Friendship Ceremony was held in Academy Two at the prestigous Burbank Marriot hotel. In this event ambassadors sang songs about friendship, exchanged pennies, and gave phone numbers. Everyone was sad, and some even cried when they said goodbye, but each friend knew they would see eachother again. Different songs were “Lean On Me”, “Magic Penny”,” One Love”, and “Imagine”. Last night, May 1st, Japan declared war on North Korea, because they threatened them with major nuclear attacks. After a crisis between North and South Korea the previous night about a poisonous substance, Japan did not cast a vote on a biological attack on South Korea.
According to Felipe Saenz, an ambassador representing Japan, “No one wanted to be involved because they were too lazy. They wanted to get it over with.” Japan did make a resolution, but nobody signed it. Felipe “doesn’t like the ...

Written By: Ashley Dahlen (Santa Barabara Family YMCA)
Today in the Sercuity Council meeting, they talked about many interesting things, but I will tell you about the most important things.
One important thing they talked about was Nuclear Proliferation in Iran. They talked about stopping Nuclear weapons from Iran. They also argue a lot, about either putting Iran on surveillance or how they would want to stop the spread of nuclear power.
They also asked very specific questions about everything. For instance, all the countries wanted to know how can ...

Ecosoc Focuses on Promoting Full Employment

Date: April 30, 2010
By: Nick Guthman (Culver Palms YMCA)
The Committee on Social Development is focusing on promoting full employment. The way they plan on developing a program that will promote full employment is by slightly raising the sales and income taxes of the countries. The way it will work is the countries such as The U.S., Japan, and Ireland, to name a few, will collect the taxes, and a percentage of the taxes will be given to the U.N. The U.N. will then distribute the money amongst the countries, and they ...

Kelli Wong is the Director of Organization for Food Distribution of the NGO organ. I was lucky to get a quick interview with her. These answers are shortened.
Q: What types of food will be given to victims?
A: Grains, fattening foods like Caltine Bars, and foods that are fast and easy to make and deliver.
NW: Fattening foods are good for the Hatians because they are very food deprived. With more fat, they’ll be able to last longer in certain situations.

The Weather for Burbank

Date: April 30, 2010

The weather at the summit on Friday was a mixture of windy and warm. For some people, that is good enough to go swimming. That is, a lot of people. As David of the La Jolla YMCA said,”It’s really nice, nice enough to go swimming.” So the last thing I have to say is M.U.N, be prepared to be swim at least once in the summit.

The fashion at the Summit in Burbank is quite the same but everybody has a different perspective on it.
I sat down with Elizabeth Sullivan from Torrence/South Bay delegation. Sullivan is 11 years old and this is her first year here at MUN. I asked a few questions about her opnions on certain clothing , such as heels.
“I like heels , they make me feel self-confident, but i would rather wear flats because they are fashionable,” she said.

Micheal the Magician: From Optimistic to Offensive?

Date: April 30, 2010
By: Lauren Peeters (Stuart C. Gildred Family YMCA)
On April 29th, Micheal the Magician had the nearly impossible job of entertaining 200 members of the Model United Nations, whose ages range from about 11-14. The energetic magician preformed a wide variety of tricks, including levitation, nearly impossible balancing, and optical illusions, to name a few. Of course, not everyone in such a large crowd can be pleased easily, so many members of the audience had different opinions about the show.
“The shaving cream trick was awesome,” states conflicted bystander Jenna on his ...

What we did on April 8

On April 8, the Palo Alto delegation researched their topics for the summit meeting. I on the other hand interviewed Megha Malpani for a practice press conference. For the rest of the meeting we really didn’t do anything except argue among ourselves about who would reseach what. We got alot accomplished though and I can’t wait to tell you about next week!

The Pescadero Delegation had met three weeks before Camp Roberts to discuss how we wanted to represent M.U.N this year with our sweater design. Five delegates met and designed the sweaters we wore at Camp Roberts. The design was simple, but right to the point, on the back it has purple & white olive leaves surrounding a purple Nor-Cal star in the center, and Pescadero Delegation, the color is a bright fluorescent yellow. On the front it has South Coast Children Services logo on it. South Coast Children’s Services is ...

The ride to camp roberts had it’s ups and downs but we got there! We were squeazed into a tiny bus no bigger than a school bus, and to make it even worse it was hot. Saturday’s afternoon debate for the ICJ was concerning Nuclear Proliferation. The debate included a lot of interesting tactics and context.

Japan went up in the beginning and stated how the launch of China’s nuclear missile is violating an international law/treaty. China has admitted that the missile does contain some nuclear power. China claims the test is for future scientific purposes. Japan is worried the test may be a threat to the nation. Japan does say that even though China did ...
